The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) has been petitioned by five parties to look into the allegations made against former Sanitation Minister Cecilia Dapaah about the acquisition of assets that are out of proportion to her income.
Given Ghana’s economic difficulties and the Cedi’s depreciation, the people was outraged by the revelation of large sums.
The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) arrested Dapaah after she resigned after finding more than GH¢48 million in her accounts.
A detailed investigation of Dapaah’s finances is demanded by the petitioners, Mensah Thompson, Al-Hassan Kwadwo Baidoo, Bernard Anbataayela Mornah, Ransford Antwi, and Joyce Atitso.
A theft at her residence sparked the controversy surrounding Dapaah, which resulted in her resignation in July 2023. Large sums of money—$1 million, €300,000, and GH¢350,000—as well as opulent handbags costing $35,000 and jewelry worth $95,000 were among the pilfered goods.
