Bawumia: Our census will be digital, we will know how many people have died and are born.
Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice President, believes that traditional door-to-door census procedures would soon become obsolete since technology will help obtain accurate population counts in more efficient ways.
“Very soon and I mean, maybe within the next few years, our census will be almost digital because we will know how many people have died from birth and death, we know how many people are born.”
“It will not be necessary to physically go and count anybody, because the data will be available, on a daily basis about the population at any point in time…”Dr Bawumia said.
Dr. Bawumia believes that Ghana will no longer need to conduct a large census every ten years since digital technology will allow the population to be tracked more quickly and efficiently.
Addressing the clergy in Accra on Tuesday, June 4, as part of his campaign trip of the Greater Accra Region, Dr. Bawumia stated that the government’s aim to modernize the economy through technology is working.
As stated by him, Ghana will soon be able to follow its people in real time thanks to digitalization, rendering old census methods obsolete.
